TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Carolina freshman Lindsay Tarpley, the ACC Rookie of the Year, rallied for back-to-back goals to help the top-seeded Tar Heels to a 3-0 victory over #8-seeded Wake Forest Thursday evening at the Seminole Soccer Complex. With the victory, UNC improved to 15-1-4 on the year while the Demon Deacons fell to 12-7-1. UNC advanced to semifinal action and will play the winner of tonight's FSU/Maryland contest on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

"Tonight was a good win," stated Tarpley. "We came together as a team, and it was a complete team effort. That's what is so important for our team."

North Carolina struck early when senior forward Susan Bush took a cross from the left side of the box from junior forward Alyssa Ramsey and scored 7:45 into the match. Tarpley gave the Tar Heels a 2-0 halftime advantage with a goal at 40:16. Sophomore midfielder Mary McDowell sent the ball into the box from the right side where Tarpley slid into it from the middle for the score. The Tar Heels had seven first half shots overall, including four shots on goal and had four corner kicks. Wake Forest struggled offensively and managed just two shots in the first 90 minutes.

"Obviously at this point of the year, it is all about advancing," commented UNC head coach Anson Dorrance. "It's all about staying healthy, and we're advancing and staying healthy. I'm thrilled with some of the things we did; everyone contributed tonight. In a tournament, you're going to have to win three games in four days, so everyone needs to contribute."

It was all North Carolina in the second half as the Tar Heels recorded nine more shots, including three shots on goal. Tarpley scored at 59:27 from 25 yards out on the left side to the far post and the Tar Heel defense continued to shutdown the Demon Deacon offense, allowing just one second half shot.

UNC finished the game with 16 shots, including seven on goal, and had four corner kicks while Wake Forest recorded just three shots and none on goal. The Tar Heels defeated Wake Forest 3-2 in the regular season and also topped the Deacons in last year's ACC Tournament semifinals by a score of 3-0.
