Caldwell's goal came in the 24th minute of the game. The play began when Julia Bouchelle sent a ball which led freshman Victoria DiMartino into the box to the left of the Duke goalkeeper Tara Campbell. DiMartino and Campbell collided in an attempt to reach the ball. As the loose ball rolled out, Caldwell followed the play, took one dribble and struck a shot from about 19 yards out into the open goal. The Eagles thought they had a goal early on a shot by Gina DiMartino 12 minutes into the match. DiMartino shot was from about 22 yards out and Campbell jumped up to stop the shot but bobbled the ball. It looked like the ball crossed the goal mouth on by the BC players but the linesman never signaled a goal and Campbell picked up the save.
