Oct. 26, 2008 Boston College's Women's Soccer Captures 2-1 Win over Virginia Tech Chestnut Hill, MA - Sophomore Brooke Knowlton scored her team high seventh goal of the season to give No. 13 Boston College a 2-1 victory over Virginia Tech in a key ACC match up Sunday afternoon in front of 322 fans at the Newton Soccer Field. The win helped Boston College improve to 11-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 n the ACC, while Virginia Tech drops to 9-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference. The Eagles victory also gave head coach Alison Kulik her 150th victory while at the Heights. Kulik took over the program in 1997. She has led the Eagles to seven NCAA appearances.
Duke Women’s Soccer Pounds Clemson, 6-0, On Senior Day DURHAM, N.C. – On a day when six Duke women’s soccer seniors were recognized prior to the match and played their final home regular season contest, the 10th-ranked Blue Devils pounded the Clemson Tigers in-route to a 6-0 victory on Sunday at Koskinen Stadium. With the victory, Duke improved to 12-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action, while breaking an eight-game losing streak to Clemson. “It is nice to put that to rest,” said Duke Head Coach Robbie Church on the losing streak to Clemson. “Clemson has always had our number. The kids played great as it has been a tough week coming back from Florida State, a couple of injuries and coming back from Miami. I am just very proud of how they bounced back.”
Arias' Game-Winner Lifts Terps Women's Soccer Over NC State, 2-1 RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior midfielder Nataly Arias scored the fifth game-winning goal of her career to propel the University of Maryland women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over NC State Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute thanks to a Briana Cunningham goal. But that lead didn't last long as the Terps responded just a minute later. Senior defender Aimee Bresani tied the match with a 30-yard blast into the upper left 90.
Miami Defeats No. 19 Wake Forest on Senior Day CORAL GABLES - The University of Miami women's soccer team (9-6-3, 2-4-2) scored right before the half and then played tough defense to hold on for the much needed 1-0 ACC victory over the No. 19 Wake Forest Demon Decons (10-6-0, 3-5-0). Sophomore defender Brittany Macdonald used all of her height as she headed in Lauren Singer's corner kick in the 43rd minute. The 5-11 Macdonald rushed to the near post and got her head on the ball, beating the goalie to her right, into the middle of the net. The goal was her second of the season. Singer picked up her team-leading fifth assist on the play as well.
