Wolfpack Women Whitewash Furman, 4-0
October 21, 1998 RALEIGH, N.C. - Kris Phillips had a goal and an assist, and Shannon Tulley had two assists Tuesday afternoon to lead NC State to a 4-0 women's soccer victory over Furman at Method Road Soccer Stadium. The win lifted the Wolfpack to 6-9 while the Paladins dropped to 10-6. NC State jumped to the early lead at the 8:14 mark when Tulley fed Lisa Boggs from midfield. Boggs drove across the front of the goal and hit an open shot from the left post to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead. The Pack made it 2-0 when Phillips headed in a corner kick from Shannon Blair at the 40:44 mark. In the second half, Tulley fed Phillips for a shot just to the left of the front of the Furman goal, but goalkeeper Melissa Barnes deflected the shot for a save. Barb Lavergne was there to take the rebound and drill it into the right corner of the net to give the Wolfpack a 3-0 lead. Jennifer Marsh capped the scoring when she drove from near midfield and booted home an unassisted goal at the 83:13 mark. The shutout is the first of 1998 for the Wolfpack, which has won four of its last six games. The Pack has outscored the opposition 20-14 over the last six games.
