Florida State Takes Down Wake Forest 5-0 Eighth-ranked Florida State (11-2-1, 5-1-0 ACC) defeated No. 16 Wake Forest (9-5-0, 2-4-0 ACC) 5-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex in a game paying tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness. Sporting pink jerseys for the cause in Thursday's night victory, the Seminoles tied a season-high with five goals while four different Seminoles posting multi-point performances. After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, the Seminoles broke the game open with four more goals in the second half. It marked the second straight game that Florida State has scored five goals against Wake Forest as the Seminoles defeated the Deacs 5-2 in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., a season ago.
Miami Picks Up Double-Overtime Win at Clemson CLEMSON, S.C. - The University of Miami women's soccer team (8-6-2, 1-4-1) handed the Clemson Tigers (5-7-1, 1-4-1) a 1-0 double-overtime loss on their senior night at Riggs Field. Julianne Rickers scored the second goal of her collegiate career in the 106th minute to give the Hurricanes their first ACC win of the season. The game-winning goal came after Rickers took a Lauren Singer pass and beat the diving keeper to the left with a shot from 15-yards out. The game was played even throughout the first 105 minutes, as Clemson took a total of 19 shots to the Hurricanes' 22. However, Miami proved to be much more accurate as they forced Clemson's Paula Pritzen to make 13 saves. Vikki Alonzo was only called on to make three saves on the night.
Flanagan’s Golden Goal Lifts Virginia Over Maryland COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Colleen Flanagan (Downingtown, Pa.) scored her first career goal in the 94th minute to lift No. 9 Virginia to a 3-2 overtime win at Maryland Thursday night at Ludwig Field. The win was the Cavaliers’ school record fourth ACC road win of the season as they improve to 11-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the conference. The Cavaliers took the early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 13th minute. Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.) slid a ball behind the defense onto the run of Lauren Alwine (Elizabethtown, Pa.), who fired in her fourth goal of the season. In the 21st minute the Cavaliers doubled their advantage. After Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) was fouled in the box, Krzysik converted the ensuing penalty kick for her third goal of the season. Maryland closed the lead to 2-1 in the 26th minute as a ball came to Annesia Faulkner at the edge of the penalty area, who drove a ball inside the far post for her first goal of the season. Early in the second half, the Terrapins tied the game with a penalty kick of their own, scored by Nataly Arias. The game remained tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation.
