Wolfpack Women Wail Wofford, 9-1

October 14, 1998

RALEIGH, N.C. - True freshman Kris Phillips led a 31-shot NC State attack with three goals Wednesday afternoon to lead the Wolfpack to a 9-1 women's soccer rout of Wofford at Method Road Soccer Stadium.

The win was the third in the last four games for NC State, which improved to 5-8 on the season. Wofford dropped to 8-7 with the loss.

The proceedings got off to a bad start for Wofford when the Terriors gave the Wolfpack an own goal just 1:25 into the game. The Pack promptly built on that lead. Shannon Blair made it 2-0 with a 15-yarder at the 13:30 mark, with an assist from Laura Ferguson. True freshman Stacy Nevin gave NC State a 3-0 lead with another 15-yarder at the 16:46 mark, with the assist going to Kelly Blaggie.

Wofford got on the board on a shot from Debbie Boyce off an assist from Jenny Petrilyak at 17:07, but Kris Phillips scored an unassisted goal at 36:16 to give NC State a three-goal lead again at 4-1.

The second half was all Wolfpack. Shannon Tulley scored back-to-back goals at 48:59 and 52:18, and Phillips followed with consecutive goals at 74:08 and 86:42. Jennifer Mosakewicz picked up the final goal of the game at the 88:45 mark to give NC State its most lopsided victory since a 9-0 win over College of Charleston late in the 1994 season.
