Tar Heels Beat Demon Deacons Behind Nogueira's Hat Trick

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior forward Casey Nogueira became the third different University of North Carolina women's soccer player in the last four games to record a hat trick as her three goals and an assist powered second-ranked North Carolina to a 4-2 victory over 16th-ranked Wake Forest Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 1,309 at Spry Soccer Stadium. It was the second hat trick of Nogueira's career as she also had a three-goal performance on September 20, 2007 in a 5-0 Tar Heel win over Ohio State.

Carolina scored twice in the opening 20 minutes of action only to see the Demon Deacons bounce back with a goal late in the first half to cut the halftime margin to 2-1. The two teams then combined for three goals in a span of only eight minutes late in the second half in the wild, high-scoring ACC contest. The win was the seventh in a row for the Tar Heels as they improved to 11-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the ACC, remaining in a first-place tie in the league standings with Virginia. Wake Forest dropped its second straight game and is now 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Florida State Completes Road Swing With 1-0 Victory Over Boston College

NEWTON, Mass. - Eleventh-ranked Florida State (9-2-1, 3-1-0 ACC) completed its northeast road trip in fine fashion with a 1-0 victory over No. 12 Boston College (8-2-2, 2-1-1 ACC). Freshman Tori Huster scored the lone goal on Sunday afternoon as the Seminoles improved to 4-0-2 all-time against Boston College. The loss was the first of the season for the Eagles in league play, while the win moved Florida State into sole possession of third place in the ACC.

The win extended Florida State's road unbeaten streak to six games in 2008 as the Seminoles moved to 5-0-1 this year. The Seminole kept the Eagles off the scoreboard yet again as FSU has not allowed BC to score in the series, a span covering 580 consecutive scoreless minutes.

Farrelly’s Hat Trick Leads Cavaliers to 7-1 Win at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 11 Virginia women’s soccer team matched the best ACC start in school history at 4-0-0 with a 7-1 victory over Clemson Sunday at Historic Riggs Field. Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) scored a hat trick in the first half to the lead the Cavaliers, who improved to 10-1-1 overall.

“Obviously we did an exceptional job of finishing today,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “I thought we started the game strong and to get a couple of goals early gave us a nice cushion. This was a lot closer game than 7-1. Clemson fought hard and was extremely organized. The difference was we were able to take advantage of our early chances.”

Sciascia Connects On Corner To Lift Terps Over Miami

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior forward Kaila Sciascia scored the only goal of the match with just 22 seconds remaining in the first half to give the University of Maryland women's soccer team a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Miami Hurricanes Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field.

"I'm happy for our players to have earned a win in the ACC; it's so hard to get three points in this conference," said head coach Brian Pensky. "Having played well enough against both Wake Forest and Florida State, it was about time that our kids got a result and something tangible to hold onto.

Jukich's five second half points send Tech past NC State

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Another strong second half performance by the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team propelled the Hokies past ACC rival NC State, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Tech is now 6-4-2 on the season and improves to 1-1-2 in conference action.

Both squads played a tough opening half with the Wolfpack barely edging Tech in shots 5-4. NC State’s Briana Cunningham almost gave the Wolfpack an early lead at the 23:43 mark on an open shot from the right side, but the ball grazed the post and deflected out of bounds.
