Clemson Women's Soccer Team Defeats Presbyterian College Sunday Afternoon
The Clemson women's soccer team defeated Presbyterian College by a score of 3-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers improve to 3-5 with the win, while the Blue Hose fall to 3-5 with the loss. Clemson freshman forward Maddy Elder netted two goals in the game, bringing her total to nine for the season and her career.

Elder scored the game's first goal in the 33rd minute of play. Sophomore defender K.K. Duffy sent a long pass to Elder in the box and the freshman sent it into the net for her eighth goal of the season.

The second goal of the game was an own goal for Clemson that was misplayed by a PC defender and dribbled into the goal past Blue Hose keeper Sarah Beth Anderson in the 51st minute.

Cavaliers Defeat American 2-0
The No. 16 Cavalier women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with a 2-0 victory over American Sunday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium. With the victory, Virginia closes out its non-conference schedule with a 5-1-2 record.

Virginia dominated the first half of play, outshooting the Eagles (4-4-0) 10-1 in the first half, but were unable to capitalize. The Cavaliers had two golden chances late in the first half as Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) rattled the crossbar with her long-distance strike and Katie Starsia’s (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) shot in the final seconds of the half was saved off the line by an American defender.

In the second half it didn’t take long for the Cavaliers to strike, taking the lead in the 48th minute. Farrelly collected a loose ball just outside the box and fired a shot into the upper corner for her fourth goal of the season. Virginia doubled its lead in the 89th minute when Meghan Lenczyk (McLean, Va.) headed home a cross from Lindsey Miller (Nashua, N.H.) for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Tech sneaks past Davidson, 3-2
The Hokies remained strong in the second half to hold off the Davidson Wildcats in their final non-conference before ACC play begins. Tech (6-2-0) got out to a comfortable lead in the first half before Davidson (3-6-0) attempted a comeback, late in the second half. The Hokies were led by freshman Kelly Conheeney, who scored two goals, while Davidson ‘s bench rallied for both Wildcat scores.

Senior forward Julian Johnson put Tech on the board first, in the seventh minute, when she scored her first goal of the season off a signature throw-in. Johnson was out of bounds near the 18 on the right side of the field and tossed the ball in to her teammates, scrambling in the box. Emily Jukich took a shot at the incoming ball as it was about to hit the ground, but missed, which allowed the ball to bounce off the ground and past the keeper into the goal.

Midfielder Conheeney would later make the match 2-0 as she netted an unassisted goal in the 37th minute. Conheeney’s first shot was block by Davidson’s keeper Jessie Baxa, but she was able to get a hold of her loose rebound and stick it in the upper right corner of the net just over the recovering keeper.

No. 1 Tar Heels Settle For Scoreless Tie With Auburn In Final Non-Conference Game
North Carolina's undefeated and untied status in 2009 ended Sunday afternoon as the top-ranked Tar Heels thoroughly dominated their match against Auburn but had to settle for a scoreless tie in the Duke Nike Classic at Koskinen Stadium. The Tar Heels outshot the Tigers 40-4 and had a 10-2 edge in corner kicks but were unable to find the back of the net for the first time since September 4, 2008 when Carolina lost 1-0 to Notre Dame at Fetzer Field.

North Carolina is now 7-0-1 on the season and will likely lose its No. 1 ranking when the new national polls are released on Tuesday. Auburn's tie left the Tigers with a record of 3-2-3. In Sunday's second game at the Duke Nike Classic, the host Blue Devils and LSU battled to a 2-2 tie as the Tigers rallied for two second-half goals to wipe out a 2-0 halftime deficit and force the two overtime periods and the resulting tie.

UNC's Jessica McDonald was named the Tournament's most outstanding offensive player after scoring the game-winner in Friday's 1-0 win for the Tar Heels over LSU. Carolina's Whitney Engen was named the tournament's defensive MVP and she was joined on the All-Tournament Team by her fellow back line mates - defender Kristi Eveland, goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris and defender Rachel Givan

Duke & LSU Close With 2-2 Tie in the Nike Classic
The Duke women's soccer team closed out the Duke Nike Classic on Sunday afternoon with a 2-2 tie against LSU at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils claimed the Duke Nike Classic title with a 4-1 goal differential over top-ranked North Carolina.

The Blue Devils held a 2-0 lead at halftime on Sunday but allowed a goal 2:19 into the second half and gave up an own-goal with 5:57 remaining in the second half before finishing in a 2-2 tie following two overtimes.

Duke moved to 4-3-2 overall and will now open Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. LSU now owns a 4-2-2 overall record.

Miami Falls in Ann Arbor, 1-0
The University of Miami women's soccer team (5-4-0) gave up a late first half goal to the Michigan Wolverines (5-5-0) and despite firing 21 shots were unable to score any of their own in a 1-0 loss at the U-M Soccer Complex, Sunday afternoon.

As the case in each of their three 1-0 losses, the Hurricanes have outshot their opponents but just weren't able to capitalize.

Unfortunately for Miami, it seemed like the match would remain scoreless heading into the break, but a free kick and ensuing goal with just 20 seconds remaining - gave Michigan the 1-0 lead. That would eventually prove to be the final.

Limited Offense Dooms Wolfpack At Charlotte
Kirby Stenard scored the only goal of the match for Charlotte in a 1-0 victory over the NC State women's soccer team Sunday afternoon at Transamerica Field.

The 49ers (6-2) defense recorded their fifth shutout of the season while limiting NC State (5-2-1) to only five shots. Wolfpack senior defender Gia Cipollini had three of her team's shots.

Stenard recorded her second straight game-winning goal when she deflected a Sam Huecker corner into the right side of the goal in the 53rd minute. Stenard's goal was her third of the season.
