No. 8 Women's Soccer Stumbles in 0-0 2 OT vs. Syracuse

The Boston College women's soccer team played to a hard fought 0-0 double-overtime draw against former Big East foe Syracuse at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles drop to 5-0-1, while Syracuse is now 2-2-2.
Boston College out shot the Orange, 32-6, but could not get one in the back of the net. In regulation, the Eagles had 26 shots. Syracuse goalkeeper Eliza Bennett-Hatten was strong all game as she came away with 10 saves.
The Eagles defense continued to shine as they held the Orange to just six shots and goalkeeper Sarah Buonomo had three saves. She now has five shutouts and a goals against average of 0.16 this season.
One of the Eagles best chances came in the first half when Kelly Henderson hit one off the crossbar in the 39th minute of play. In both overtimes, Boston College kept the Syracuse defense scrambling but could not score. In the first overtime, the best chances came from Henderson and Kia McNeill late in the stanza. The second overtime, BC sophomore Melissa Gimpel had a great chance in the box but Bennett-Hatten was there to preserve the draw.
The next game for Boston College is pm Wednesday, September 19 against Fairfield at the Newton Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
