![]() No. 13 UT Squeaks out Win Over No. 24 Deacs in OT Battle

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The No. 24 Wake Forest women's soccer team was edged 1-0 in an overtime battle by 13th-ranked Tennessee at the Hawthorne Suites Hokie Invitational Sunday afternoon in Blacksburg. Tennessee's Devon Swaim scored the game-winner in the 98th minute, setting the Vols at 3-1-0 while the Deacs stand at 2-3-0. Wake Forest out-shot the Lady Vols in the first 90 minutes and finished with 25 shots to UT's 17. The Deacs were on target, posting nine shots on goal to Tennessee's five. Amy Smerdzinski helped lead the offensive charge for the Deacs, firing seven shots through 98 minutes. Tennessee goalkeeper Jaimel Johnson registered nine saves, posting four in each half and one in the overtime period. The Deacons will look rebound from losses over the weekend when they face Louisville on Wednesday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem.
