FSU Wraps-Up Successful Weekend With 3-0 Victory Over Connecticut

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three ranked opponents, three big victories to start the season. Fourth-ranked Florida State (3-0-0) continued its torrid start with a 3-0 victory over No. 12 Connecticut (1-2-0) at Jeffrey Field on the campus of Penn State University. Sanna Talonen scored twice and Lauren Switzer added another as the Seminoles evened the all-time series against the Huskies at two games apiece.

The Seminoles dominated the offensive flow for a majority of the game registering 13 shots each half en route to out shooting Connecticut 26-5. With the win, Florida State improved to 20-21-6 all-time in neutral site contests. In the first three games, FSU has out scored the opposition 12-1.

Tar Heels Improve To 3-0 On Washington's Goal

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - The University of North Carolina women's soccer team got a goal from junior forward Nikki Washington 27 minutes into the match and made it hold up as the No. 2 Tar Heels shut out No. 14 Tennessee 1-0 in the Texas A&M Weekend Soccer Invitational at the Aggie Soccer Complex. The Tar Heels improved to 3-0 on the season with the win after beating back-to-back ranked opponents in College Station.

The only goal of the match was produced by Washington who tallied at the 27:00 mark on a shot from 12 yards out into the right corner. It was Washington's first goal of the season and a game-winner for the junior from Mesquite, Texas. Washington also recorded the primary assists on the game-winning goals in UNC's first two wins of the campaign over Charlotte and Texas A&M. Washington's goal was assisted by UNC senior midfielder Yael Averbuch who fed a long ball cross field to free Washington for the goal.

Hurricanes Close Out Homestand With 2-0 Win Over FAU

CORAL GABLES - The University of Miami women's soccer team (3-0-0) was held scoreless in the first half by Florida Atlantic (1-2-0), but scored twice in the second to claim the 2-0 victory, Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.

For the second consecutive match the scoring was started by a Miami freshman. This time Ashlee Burt had the honors in the 57th minute with her first collegiate goal. The Saddle River, N.J. native took a shot from the right goal line that deflected off a FAU defender before hitting the far post into the goal.

Winslow Nets Hat Trick, No. 15 Deacons Shutout UNCW 5-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sarah Winslow scored three goals to lead the No. 15 Wake Forest women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over UNC-Wilmington on a hot Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium. The Deacons improve to 3-0 on the season, while UNC-Wilmington drops to 1-2-1.

Outside of the first 10 minutes of the game, Wake Forest controlled much of the action. The Deacons out-shot UNC-Wilmington 21-15, and had an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Clemson Women's Soccer Team Bolts Past UNC Asheville 8-0 Sunday

CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson women's soccer team defeated UNC Asheville by a score of 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at Riggs Field. The Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-2. Senior Julie Bolt scored four goals in the win, moving into a tie for first place with three other Tigers for most goals scored in a single game.

Bolt got the Tigers on the board less than five minutes into the game with a 14-yarder into the right side of the net by way of a long pass from senior defender Molly Johnson. Junior midfielder Lindsey Jackson netted her second goal of the season at the 10:17 mark, with sophomore Abby Lambert tallying the assist on the play.

Cavaliers Top VCU 5-0 to Remain Unbeaten

CHARLOTTESVILLE - The No. 7 Virginia women's soccer team concluded its season-opening three-game homestand with a 5-0 victory over VCU Sunday night at Klöckner Stadium. Five different Cavaliers scored in the game while the defense posted its third shutout to start the year.

The Cavaliers took a 1-0 advantage in the 26th minute. Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) took a free kick from just outside the area and found Alli Fries (Dublin, Ohio), who headed home her first goal of the season.

Tech shuts out George Mason 2-0

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech Hokies used two quick goals midway through the second half to dispel the George Mason Patriots, 2-0, on Sunday night at Sandra D. Thompson Field.

Despite outshooting the Patriots, 11-0, in the first half, Virginia Tech was unable score and the two teams entered halftime tied, 0-0. Tech had several scoring opportunities but was turned away by the outstanding play of Mason keeper, Kelly Keelan. Keelan, who typically plays forward for the Patriots, started her first game in net and tallied six saves in the first half and nine for the match.

Blue Devils Improve To 3-0 As Alukonis Posts Game-Winner In 76th Minute

DURHAM, N.C. - After scoring 13 goals in the first two contests, the 10th-ranked Duke women's soccer team found themselves in a defensive battle on Sunday evening at Koskinen Stadium against UNC Greensboro. The Blue Devils registered a goal in the 76th minute to collect a 1-0 victory over the Spartans.

Both teams came out in the first half and limited each others scoring opportunities. At the end of the first stanza, each team had six shots attempted, while Duke held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

BC Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss of Season

The Boston College women's soccer team fell to No. 10 Stanford, 3-0, in a non-conference game on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

The Cardinal struck early as Christen Press scored the first goal just 3:22 into the game off a shot from 25-yards out. Stanford went up 2-0 just four minutes later on a goal by Teresa Noyola. BC regained its composure and finished the half tied in shots taken at six apiece.

Terps Women's Soccer Unlucky In 1-0 Loss To Elon

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team lost a heartbreaking 1-0 match to Elon Sunday evening at Ludwig Field.

The Phoenix's Molly Calpin knocked home the game's lone goal in the 67th minute on a free kick from inside the Terps' 18-yard box. Elon was awarded the free kick on an obstruction call on a Maryland's Mary Casey as she was shielding a Phoenix forward to allow goalkeeper Yewande Balogun to collect a loose ball inside the penalty box.
