CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Melissa Gimpel and Gina DiMartino each scored to lead Boston College past non-conference foe Central Connecticut, 2-0, at the Newton Soccer Field on the campus of Boston College.

"I think we played very well today, this is a great start to the season. We were able to control the tempo and pinned them back for long periods. We had a strong defensive performance allowing only three shots,'' said BC head coach Alison Foley. "We had a number of quality opportunities, however, a mixture of good goalkeeping and not capitalizing on our chances kept the score at 2-0 which was not indicative of the game.''

Gimpel recorded the first goal of the season late in the first half. The sophomore forward received a pass from freshman midfielder Chelsea Regan. Gimpel pulled the trigger quickly from 25-yards away to give BC a 1-0 lead at 39:58. It was Gimpel's fourth career goal and Regan first collegiate point.

The second Boston College goal came at 47:02 when Gina DiMartino broke into the box and slid the ball near post by the diving Central Connecticut goalkeeper Caity Casey. The set up started in the back when Brianna Wilson-Byrne found Caitlin Hiler in the middle of the field, Hiler then slid the ball by two defenders and all DiMartino had to do was place the ball by the keeper. It was DiMartino's 14th career goal.

Boston College goalkeeper Sarah Buonomo had two saves and recorded the first shut out of the season. Casey kept the Blue Devils in the match as she recorded 13 saves. The Eagles had 22 shots in the game, while the Blue Devils had three.

The Eagles will travel to Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday, September 6 to play Brown University. The next home match for Boston College is on Sunday, Sept. 9 against Harvard.
