Virginia Claims ACC Crew of the Week Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The First Varsity Eight crew for Virginia has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Crew of the week for April 28, the ACC announced today. Last Saturday, Virginia’s First Varsity Eight Crew, ranked 15th nationally, defeated 11th-ranked Southern California, 16th-ranked Harvard, plus Northeastern and Gonzaga in a pair of races on the Charles River in Boston. The Cavaliers bested the nationally-ranked Trojans and Crimson with a time of 7:08.4 to 7:09.2 for USC and 7:12.9 for Harvard. Earlier, Virginia’s First Varsity Eight led a sweep of Northeastern and Gonzaga with a time of 6:58.3 to 7:06.9 for the Huskies and a time of 7:21.6 for the Zags. The honor was the first this year for UVA’s for First Varsity Eight crew. Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight crew was honored on March 31. The Cavaliers’ First Varsity Eight boat, ranked 15th nationally by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, is composed of coxswain Sidney Thorsten (Atlanta, Ga.), Jennifer Cromwell (Bellvue, Wash.), Amanda Chase (Woodbridge, Va.), Lauren Hutchins (North Vancouver, Canada), Augusta Stratos (Charlottesville, Va.), Desiree Burns (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Bridget Fowler (Atlanta, Ga.), Lauren Shook (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) and Victoria Burke (Redding, Conn.).
