ACC-Big Ten Challenge, Saturday, March 31

No. 2 Virginia Wins 11 Races at ACC-Big Ten Challenge

LAKE MONTICELLO, Va. - The No. 2 Virginia women's rowers won 11 of 12 races at the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Saturday at Lake Monticello. The Cavaliers hosted Duke, No. 19 Michigan, and No. 4 Ohio State at the regatta.

In the day's final event the No. 4 Ohio State varsity eight upset No. 2 Virginia by a length. The Buckeyes finished in a time of 6:45.8, while the Cavaliers followed in 6:40.9.

Virginia's second varsity eight, including Caitlin Mixter (coxswain), Renee Albers, Anna Samaha, Bridget Fowler, Kelsie Chaudoin, Emelia Colman-Shepherd, Augusta Stratos, Andria Haneman, and Rebecaa Ryall, finished ahead of Ohio State with a time of 6:52.9. The Buckeyes came in at 6:58.5. Michigan (7:08.8) outlasted Duke (7:15.6).

Duke Rowing Competes In ACC-Big Ten Challenge

LAKE MONTICELLO, Va. - The Duke women's rowing team competed in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Saturday at Lake Monticello. The Blue Devils faced No. 2 Virginia, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 19 Michigan at the regatta.

In Duke's first race of the day, the novice eight crew was defeated by Ohio State. The Buckeyes finished in 7:05.2, while the Blue Devils had a time of 7:44.4. In the varsity four race, Virginia's C boat won with a time of 7:49.8, Ohio State was second at 7:56.3 and Duke was third at 8:02.0. The Buckeyes then won the second varsity eight race with a time of 6:46.4, with the Blue Devils finishing second at 7:03.0. Ohio State ended the morning session with a victory in the varsity eight race, winning with a time of 6:42.5. Duke's varsity eight crew finished in 6:59.4.


Boston College Rowing Competes in Season-Opening Regatta

The Boston College women's rowing team opened their spring season -- and second year in the ACC -- on Saturday, March 31 on the Charles River. The Eagles faced crews from Northeastern and Dartmouth.

The Eagles competed in Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Novice Eight, and Varsity Four races. Dartmouth was victorious in the first varsity and novice competitions, while Northeastern won the second varsity and varsity four. BC came in third throughout the day's competition, though the novice eight finished in 7:36.6 -- 11.4 seconds behind Northeastern.


San Diego Crew Classic Challenge, Saturday & Sunday, March 31 - April 1

Tiger Rowing Claims Varsity 8+ Petite Final

San Diego, CA - The Clemson rowing team wrapped up the weekend at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday morning. The Tigers competed in a pair of petite finals, highlighted by the varsity 8+ boat winning the Jessop-Whittier Cup petite final.

Clemson's varsity 8+, ranked 12th in the nation last week in the U.S. Rowing/CRCA poll, posted a time of 6:57.89 and rowed away from the field. The Tigers finished ahead of Purdue, San Diego State, Loyola, and Miami. The crew consisted of Abbey Fernandez (coxswain), Sarah Cooper, Lizzy Jennings, Suzanne Van Fleet, Brittany Cummings, Barbi Breimann, Lindsay Sheppard, Jessica Leidecker, and Kristen Weinacker.

Tiger Rowing Wraps up Day One at San Diego Crew Classic

San Diego, CA - The Clemson rowing program headed to the West Coast this weekend to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic. The Tigers fell just short of qualifying for the grand final in both the varsity 8+ and novice 8+ on Saturday, and as a result, will compete in petite finals Sunday morning.

The Tigers' varsity 8+, ranked 12th in the nation, finished fourth in the second heat Saturday and will compete Sunday morning in the petite final. Clemson posted a season-best time of 6:49.43, but needed to place in the top three of the heat to advance to the grand final.

Miami's JV 8 Wins the Women's JV Petite Race at the San Diego Crew Classic

San Diego, Calif. - The University of Miami's JV 8 team cruised their way toward the finish line to capture the first place win in the women's JV petite race on the final day of competition at the 34th annual San Diego Crew Classic on the waters of Mission Bay.

The morning began with a case of fog causing a delay in the races. Once on the water, the push back of time could not put a stop to the Hurricanes' JV 8 squad from crossing the finish line at 7:14.60 to capture first the first place victory. Miami finished ahead of San Diego State University (7:17.11), Kansas State (7:30.63), Loyola (7:38.87), and the University of San Diego (7:48.47). The JV8 team consisted of Jordan Louie (Coxswain), Marleena Eyre, Molly Wilson, Marenda Chamberlin, Bethany Krawec, Karalyn Van Aken, Olivia Arkell, Hannah McKay, and Valerie Webb.

Hurricanes Advance to the Finals of the San Diego Crew Classic

San Diego, Calif. - All three crews of the University of Miami rowing team, that included the varsity 8 crew, JV 8, and 3rd varsity 8 crew will compete in Sunday's Petite finals after turning in fourth place finishes respectively Saturday morning at the 34th annual San Diego Crew Classic on the waters of Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif.

In the Jessop-Whittier Cup, the Hurricanes' Varsity 8 squad with rowers Meghan Leydecker (Coxswain) Laura Cordner, Sarah Conlon, Laura Coltman, Kelly Amsler, Caitlin Augustin, Emy Huntsman, Karen Wiley, and Natasha Lejer finished with a time of 6:58.67 behind No. 11 Stanford, eighteenth ranked Washington, and No. 1 ranked Cal. Tomorrow the Varsity 8 squad will race in the Jessop-Whittier Cup Petite with hopes of bringing home the trophy as they take on Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson, Purdue, Loyola, and San Diego State University.
