Miami Rowing Sweeps Jacksonville On St. John's River

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of Miami rowing team, in its final tune-up before next month's South/Central Championships, swept all three races against Jacksonville University Saturday morning on the St. John's River. With six total crews competing against the Dolphins on Saturday, Miami placed first and second in both the Varsity Eight race and the Varsity Four race after a win in the Novice Eight race to open the day.

In the 1st Varsity Eight race, UM's "A" crew of coxswain Shira Kharrazi, stroke Kelly Amsler, Tara Eddings, Laura Cordner, Emily Wingrove, Monika Sajincic, Karalyn Van Aken, Sarah Medland and bow Bethany Krawec edged out the Hurricanes' "B" team of coxswain Christina Crocco, stroke Louise Parry, Marleena Eyre, Caitlin Augustin, Rachael Sporko, Nic Saner, Hannah McKay, Olivia Arkell and bow Stephanie Parrish in close race, 5:52.6-to-5:54.7. Jacksonville's crew placed third in a time of 6:05.0.

"I am proud of how hard we raced today after a very tough week in practice," head coach Robbie Tenenbaum said. "Our two Varsity Eights were very close to each other and it was fun to watch them battle back and forth throughout the race."


Virginia Wins Three Races Against Yale, Harvard

DERBY, Conn. - Virginia came away with victories in the Second Varsity Four, Third Varsity Four and Second Novice Eight races Saturday against Yale and Harvard in Derby, Conn.

The Second Varsity Four (Taylor Gilmore, Diane Leigh, Shalane Carlson, Jessica Streufert, Schafer Bomstein) earned a first-place finish with a time of 8:24.3, compared to Yale's 8:28.5. The Third Varsity Four (Sarah Pichardo, Summers Nelson, Pamela Baylor, Hannah Jordan, Mariana Lima) was also victorious over the Bulldogs with a time of 8:36.4.

In the Second Novice Eight race, the crew of Laura Hendrie, Hannah Jenkins, Ariane Casper, Colleen Beichert, Lieve Pitts, Christina O'Neill, Alyssa Smith, Brittany Moore and Haley Pack defeated Harvard by more than 20 seconds with a time of 8:12.8.

In the Varsity Eight race, Virginia finished third with a time of 7:23.7.

In the Second Varsity Eight race, Virginia was third with a time of 7:31.3.

UVa's Varsity Four finished second to Yale with a time of 8:06.6.
