Women's Lacrosse News and Notes
June 12, 2001 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Another national championship season has come to a close for the University of Maryland women's lacrosse team, but that hasn't put a stop to the Terrapins being in the news. Leading the way is senior All-American Jen Adams. Adams was named midfielder of the year by the IWLCA for her efforts in 2001. In her four-year career, Adams was a member of four national championship teams, was named All-American three times and national player of the year twice (with this year's yet to be determined). She scored more goals and assists in 2001 than any player in NCAA Division I while setting the all-time collegiate marks for points (445) and assists (178). See the bottom of this page for a complete list of this year's IWLCA award recipients. Adams was also in Salt Lake City, Utah, site of this year's NACDA Convention and the awards banquet for the Honda-Broderick Award which honors the top athlete in women's collegiate athletics. Adams earned the trip by earning the Honda Award as the finest player in women's lacrosse (she was also the 2000 recipient) and was joined by coach Cindy Timchal. Jackie Stiles of Southwest Missouri State, the NCAA women's basketball career scoring leader, was named the winner of the Honda-Broderick for this year, as she was selected by a national vote involving the more than 900 NCAA-member schools. In addition to a record 3,398 career points, the 5-8 guard set an NCAA season record last season, averaging 30.3 points while helping lead the Lady Bears to the Final Four. Finally, in action last week were several Terps who played in the North-South Regional All-Star game, sponsored by the IWLCA. In that game, the South team was coached by Timchal and included Terrapins Adams, Quinn Carney and Allison Comito. The South won the game, 15-6, at the STX Festival at Johns Hopkins' Homewood Field and for her play, Carney earned team MVP honors. ------------------------ The following are the recipients of the IWLCA Awards, presented at the All-American banquet on Sat., Jun 9 in Towson:
