Six Cavs Tabbed to Women's Lax National Teams
June 7, 1999 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia claims six Cavaliers on the United States lacrosse squads, announced yesterday by USLacrosse. Four graduates will play with the Elite squad while the Developmental Squad will boast current Cavalier Amy Fromal '00 (Folsom, Pa./Ridley). Kara Ariza '98 (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood), Peggy Boutilier '99 (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country), Bonnie Rosen '92 (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton), and Cherie Greer '94 (Narbeth, Pa./Harriton) were all named to the 1999-2000 United States National Women's Lacrosse Elite team on Sunday. They will be joined by current head field hockey coach Jessica Wilk. The Elite squad will play England in a three-game test match series in June at sites on the East Coast. The assistant coach of the team is Heather Dow, currently an assistant coach for the Cavaliers as well as an alumna of the University. Ariza is currently the assistant lacrosse coach at Brown University. Boutilier is an assistant coach for the Cavaliers along with Dow. Rosen is currently the University of Connecticut's first head women's lacrosse coach. Greer, who won two NCAA Championships in 1991 and 1993, was the Defensive Player of the Year in 1994. Greer is the only Cavalier women's lacrosse player to have her number retired. As a defense wing, she led the nation in scoring in 1994. Greer was a member of the 1993 Gold medal team women's lacrosse team. Current UVa field hockey coach Jessica Wilk was named to the team as a goalie. Wilk, who played at Maryland, was the starting 'keeper in the gold medal game in 1993. Fromal, a first-team All-American in 1999, is making her first
appearance on the US national squads. Current UVa head coach Julie Myers
(UVA '90) is an assistant coach for the US Developmental Team. Virginia's
Chip Rogers (UVA '90) is the chair of the National Teams Committee for both
the Elite and Developmental Squads.
