CHAPEL HILL - Nine University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players have been selected to try out for the 2007-08 U.S. Women's Elite and Developmental teams, US Lacrosse announced on Wednesday.

The Tar Heels who will try out are Kristen Carr, Jenn Cook, Amber Falcone, Meg Freshwater, Jamie Hanssen, Christina Juras, Erica LaGrow, Kelly Taylor and Kristen Taylor. All but Cook and Juras, who were seniors this spring for the Tar Heels, will return to the Carolina squad next season.

US Lacrosse has selected 98 players from around the country to participate in the final tryouts for the United States Women's Developmental and Elite teams.

The 98 players were selected from a pool of approximately 180 players that competed during the first round of tryouts in the Stars and Stripes Division at the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament held at Lehigh University on May 26-27. The final tryouts for the 2007-08 U.S. Developmental and Elite team will be held from August 3-5, 2007 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Carolina went 16-5 overall in 2007, posting a 3-2 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Tar Heels reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament last month before losing at Virginia. UNC has reached the NCAA quarterfinals in each of the last three seasons.
