Two Tar Heels Named To USA Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team

BALTIMORE - Two members of the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse family, one current player and one alumna, have been named to the roster of the Developmental Team. Brooke Crawford (Malvern, Pa.), a 1999 Carolina graduate, and Kellie Thompson (Grasonville, Md.), a rising junior, each were named to the squad. Sue Murphy, the head coach of the USA Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team and the chair of the USLacrosse Women's Division National Teams Selection Committee, announced the selections yesterday. Crawford, a defender, graduated from Carolina in 1999 with a degree in Psychology and Pysical Education. She earned first-team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Assocation All-America honors in both 1998 and '99 and was named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference as a senior. She spent the 2000 season as an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut. Thompson, an attacker, led UNC in goals (36), assists (20) and points (56) in 2000, establishing personal career highs in each category. She tied a school record midway through the season by scoring six goals in Carolina's 14-13 win over No. 16 Penn State on Apr. 13 in Baltimore. She also was named second-team All-South region by the IWLCA. The team will open up its 2000-01 schedule at Rutgers University on June 17 with a clinic in the morning and a game in the afternoon.
