COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's lacrosse program will be well represented at this year's World Cup in High Wycombe, England, as eight of the 16 players named to this year's US World Cup Team team are former Terrapin players.

The team was selected from a group of 24 players on the US Elite team and was chosen following the final tryout at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., from May 26-27. Among the players chosen was 2001 graduate Quinn Carney, an All-American selection who helped lead the Terps to their seventh straight national championship. Carney is joined by 1996 grad Kelly Amonte Hiller (the Terps all-time leading scorer prior Jen Adams breaking her records this season, Erin Brown (1990), Randall Flynn (1997), Christie Jenkins (2000), Kristin Sommar (2000), Michele Uhlfelder (1991) and Jessica Wilk (1990). The team trainer will also be Maryland's head trainer, Sandy Worth, an employee of the university since 1973.

Carney, Jenkins and Sommar are recent members of the Terrapin team who could possibly face two other Terp teammates at the World Cup. Jen Adams and senior-to-be Courtney Hobbs will both be playing in the tournament as members of the Australian team.

The United States has won three straight World Cup titles, most recently 1997's 3-2 overtime win over Australia in Eodgawa, Japan. The Americans have won four of five championships since the first World Cup was played in 1982.

The 2001 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations' World Cup will take place from July 7-14.
