University of Virginia women's lacrosse athletes Lauren Aumiller (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Gina Sambus (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) were both named to the USA National Developmental Lacrosse team today. This is Aumiller's second year on the squad while it marks the inaugural appearance on a national team for Sambus.

Aumiller, the captain of the USA Under-19 team that won the World Championship in 1999, begins her third year on a national squad. She was the leading scorer for the Cavaliers in 2001, setting a record for scoring as a second year and also becoming the first Cavalier in school history to record 100 points in a career by the end of her second year.

Sambus joins a national team for the first time. She was a preseason finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy, which honors the outstanding collegiate women's lacrosse player. A rising fourth year at Virginia, Sambus led the team in ground balls in 2001.

The Developmental team will play at Johns Hopkins on September 29th against the Blue Jays in a doubleheader with the 2001 Elite Squad and then travel to Chicago to play Northwestern and Notre Dame November 3rd and 4th.

The head coach of the Developmental Team is Sue Murphy, while the Chair of the National Teams Committee is Chip Rogers.
