CHAPEL HILL - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released on Tuesday its 2006 Division I All-America teams, co-sponsored by US Lacrosse. University of North Carolina junior defender Jenn Cook was named a first-team All-America, while junior goalkeeper Kristen Hordy and freshman defender Amber Falcone earned third-team honors.

The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 10, 2006 in Baltimore, MD. Other Atlantic Coast Conference players on the first team included Katie Chrest and Rachel Sanford of Duke and Tyler Leachman and Nikki Lieb of Virginia.

Cook, who earned second-team honors last year, also was named All-ACC and All-South Region this spring. She has been one of the top defenders in the nation in each of the last two seasons and was one of 21 players in the nation on the final Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee List.

Hordy, also one of the final 21 names on the Tewaaraton Nominee List, spent much of the season ranked among the national leaders in goals-against average and save percentage. She was named the co-ACC Player of the Week on April 17 after recording nine saves in a win over Old Dominion and 11 in a win over Maryland. She was named to the All-ACC team last month.

Falcone was one of the top freshmen in the ACC this season, making an immediate impact on the Tar Heel defensive unit from her defensive midfielder position.

Carolina went 13-6 in 2006, reaching the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The Tar Heels went 4-1 in the ACC, tying for first-place in the conference standings.
