Women's Lacrosse Terps Earn All-American Honors
May 23, 2001 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's lacrosse team has placed five student-athletes on the 2001 IWLCA All-America list. The Terps placed four players on the first team, most of any school along with national runner-up Georgetown who also placed four in that group. In addition, another three Terrapins were named to the U.S. Lacrosse All-American first team. Attacker Allison Comito (Glen Head, N.Y.) is joined by midfielders Jen Adams (Brighton, So. Australia) and Quinn Carney (Flemington, N.J.) as well as defender Courtney Martinez (Towson, Md.) as first team selections. Fellow defender Tori Wellington (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) was a second team selection. Adams, Carney and Comito were also named to the U.S. Lacrosse first team. Comito scored the game-winning goal in yesterday's national title game and finishes her career at Maryland as the school's third all-time leading goal scorer with 174, behind only Adams and Kelly Amonte. Adams is collegiate lacrosse's all-time leading points scorer and assist leader and scored more points this season (143) than any player in any single season in women's lacrosse history. She is also up for her third national player of the year award. Carney is one of the top all-around players in the country and was the Terps second-leading scorer this year with 50 goals and 26 points, while Martinez was the Terps top defender and the NCAA Tournament Championship's most valuable player this past weekend. Wellington was an all-around force for the Terps this year who scored two goals in yesterday's national championship game and assisted Comito on the gamewinner. The following is a breakdown of all of this year's IWLCA selections:
