Chapel Hill, N.C. - University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players Porter Wilkinson, Meghann Mohler and Kellie Thompson were named to the 2000 Brine/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Assocation All-America Team on Monday. Wilkinson, a defender, was named to the first team. Mohler, a midfielder, earned second-team honors, and Thompson, an attacker, received third-team recognition. The team was released by Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel, chair of the Brine/IWLCA All-America Committee.

Wilkinson is one of eight first-team selections that played for Atlantic Coast Conference teams this season. Maryland, which won its sixth consecutive NCAA championship on May 21, led all teams with five first-team selections. Mohler is one of four ACC players on the second team and Thompson is one of three third-team honorees from the ACC. In all, 15 of the 48 players named to the first-, second- or third-teams represented one of the four ACC teams that play women's lacrosse.

Wilkinson, a sophomore from Charlottesville, Va., was Carolina's defensive leader and also earned All-ACC honors in 2000. She was among the Tar Heel leaders in ground balls and caused turnovers and often marked the best offensive players on opposing teams. She also was named first-team All-South region by the IWLCA.

Mohler, a senior from Baltimore, ranked second on the UNC team in scoring and goals and led the team in ground balls (49) and draw controls (35). In 2000, she earned All-ACC honors for the second season in a row and was named first-team All-South region by the IWLCA.

Thompson, a sophomore from Grasonville, Md., led UNC in goals (36), assists (20) and points (56) in 2000, establishing personal career highs in each category. She tied a school record midway through the season by scoring six goals in Carolina's 14-13 win over No. 16 Penn State on Apr. 13 in Baltimore. She also was named second-team All-South region by the IWLCA.

Carolina finished its 2000 campaign with a record of 12-6, 2-1 in the ACC. The Tar Heels won the ACC regular season championship and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament before losing to No. 5 Loyola, 7-5, on May 20 in Chapel Hill.
