McPike Finalist for 2002 Lacrosse Honda Award
May 21, 2002 CHAPEL HILL - University of North Carolina senior Christine McPike has been named one of four finalists for the 2001-02 Honda Award for Lacrosse, the Honda-Broderick Cup board announced on Tuesday. The trophy is given to the nation's top player. The other nominees are Rachel Becker (Princeton), Erin Elbe (Georgetown) and Jaimee Reynolds (Cornell). The winner after nationwide balloting will become a nominee for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded annually to the nation's most outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year at the Collegiate Woman of the Year banquet. The banquet will be held this year on June 17 in Dallas during the NACDA convention. Tuesday's announcement is the latest in a long list of honors this season for McPike, who has been named ACC Player of the Year, ACC Tournament MVP and All-ACC this season. She also is a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy, which is awarded to the national player of the year.
McPike and the Tar Heels went 17-3 this season, won the 2002 ACC championship and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
