Hobbs and Coppedge Earn All-America Honors
May 20, 2002 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland women's lacrosse players Courtney Hobbs (West Lakes, South Australia) and Kelly Coppedge (Annapolis, Md.) were named to the 2002 Division I IWLCA/USL All-American teams. Hobbs, a senior, was named a first team attacker while Coppedge, just a sophomore, was dubbed a third team midfielder. Kerstin Kimel, head women's lacrosse coach at Duke University and Chair of the newly merged Brine Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and United States Lacrosse (USL) All-American Award, announced the team earlier today. Hobbs led the Terrapins in scoring this year with 87 points as well as team-high numbers in goals (55) and assists (32). She averaged 4.14 points per contest while grabbing a team-high 61 ground balls. Her point total was the eighth-best in school history while her goal and assist totals also rank in the Maryland top 10 for a single season. She ended her career with 207 points, 10th-best in Terp lore. Coppedge was the team's second-leading scorer in 2002 with 75 points while posting 50 goals and 25 assists. She and Hobbs were both named All-ACC and Regional All-American selections earlier this year. Below is the entire list of 2002 Division I IWLCA/USL All-Americans:
