Four ACC Teams Earn Bids to the 2009 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (ncaa.com)--Four ACC teams were among the 16 selected to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship as announced Sunday. Maryland, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia will compete for national championship beginning with first-round games on Sunday, May 10.

ACC champion Maryland earned the league's highest seed at No. 2 and will play host to Colgate. North Carolina claimed the No. 3 seed and will face Towson. No. 5 seed Duke plays host to the league's fourth pick Virginia.

Maryland is making its 20th consecutive appearance in the championship (1990-2009). In all, three of the five teams with consecutive appearance streaks of five or more years are from the ACC: Maryland, Virginia (14, 1996-2009) and Duke (12, 1998-2009).

First-round and quarterfinal games (May 16) will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Towson University May 22 and 24 at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Maryland. The semifinal games will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports Network at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Eastern time, Friday, May 22. The championship game will be broadcast live at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, May 24.
