March 30, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland’s Karri Ellen Johnson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 29. Johnson helped pace her No. 2 Terrapins to three wins last week, including two victories over non-conference ranked opponents, No. 18 James Madison and No. 14 Stanford. The freshman from Annapolis, Md., tied a career-high with five goals against Towson on Tuesday, before eclipsing that mark with six goals at James Madison on Friday. At Towson, Johnson added two ground balls, while the attacker also established career-bests with two assists and eight points against the No. 18 Dukes on Friday. Against No. 14 Stanford on Sunday, the rookie, who registered the game-winner, tallied two goals, one assist, four ground balls and 10 draw controls as the second-ranked Terps tied its best start since 2003. Maryland returns to action at the ACC/ALC Challenge at The Ohio State University next weekend.
