Maryland Remains Unanimous No. 1 in Women's Lacrosse

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The IWLCA Poll Committee has released the third week's rankings for the NCAA Division I lacrosse field for 1999.

The Maryland Terrapins remained on top of the IWLCA poll with a pair of 10-goal defeats of 2 top-10 teams. For the fourth consecutive poll, a new school sits in the #2 position, as Duke moves into its highest ranking ever with their 11-8 win over new #3 Princeton.

The top 10 teams remain the same with some shuffling in their order, and only Brown moves back into the poll. The IWLCA Division I Poll for March 22, 1999 is as follows (with current records, poll points, first place votes, and last week's position):

Games this week involving top-20 action includes new #20 Brown's challenge of #1 Maryland. On Wedensday, #4 Virginia travels to #13 William & Mary and #8 James Madison hosts #12 Old Dominion.

On Friday, new #2 Duke defends its ranking against #9 Georgetown in our nation's capital while #3 Princeton hosts #6 Penn State. On Saturday three CAA schools host top-20 opponents as JMU hosts #16 Delaware, #10 Loyola hosts W&M, and ODU welcomes Maryland.

The ACC also holds court as #5 UNC hosts Virginia. The Ivy League also holds a contest between two top-20 teams as #18 Yale welcomes #8 Dartmouth. On Sunday #17 BU hosts #11 Vanderbilt while there is a rematch of an NCAA first round game from last year when #9 Georgetown hosts #3 Princeton.
