North Carolina's Lynch and Duke's Mackler Earn ACC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina senior attacker Becky Lynch and Duke senior goalkeeper Mollie Mackler have earned Atlantic Coast Conference women’s lacrosse weekly awards. Lynch was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Mackler was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Lynch, of Garden City, N.Y., tallied 12 points in a pair of North Carolina wins this past week. On Tuesday against Lehigh, Lynch scored three goals, three assists and notched a ground ball in the Tar Heels 16-8 victory. Then on Saturday, Lynch added a game-high four goals and two assists in North Carolina’s victory over No. 8 Virginia. Lynch also recorded one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover in her performance against the Cavaliers. North Carolina will go on the road against Georgetown on Saturday and play at Old Dominion on Sunday.
Mackler, of Longmeadow, Mass., excelled in net for Duke as she made a season-high 18 saves and held No. 15 Georgetown to half of its pregame average of 14 goals per game. Mackler made 10 of her 18 saves on Hoya free position opportunities, in which Georgetown went just 2-for-15. The Blue Devils will have two games on the road this week as Duke travels to Virginia Tech on Wednesday and then to Dartmouth on Saturday.
