UNC's Donohoe And Maryland's Poist Earn ACC Weekly Women's Lacrosse Accolades Presented By Chevrolet
Feb. 22, 2011
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina attacker Corey Donohoe and Maryland defender Brittany Poist have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet, respectively, for the period ending on Monday, Feb. 20.
En route to collecting her second consecutive Player of the Week nod, Donohoe tied career-highs of five goals, including the game-winner, and seven points, while adding a ground ball and three draw controls in the 14-10 win at No. 11 Vanderbilt on Wednesday. The senior from Jarrettsville, Md., followed that performance with a game-high four goals with two ground balls and a draw control in Sunday's 14-8 win over Richmond. Donohoe now has 13 goals and 15 points through three games this season.
Poist was instrumental in Maryland's defensive success last week as the Terrapins allowed only nine goals in two wins. The senior from Hampstead, Md., gave a lock-down defense which granted No. 16 Penn State only two goals. It marked just the first time Maryland has held a foe under three goals since 2003. Poist also helped Maryland shut out the Nittany Lions for nearly 51 minutes to cap Sunday's home opener. A key component of Maryland's ability to clear the ball, Poist also netted her first career goal against Penn State and added three draw controls on the week.
ACC Women's Lacrosse teams return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 23 as Virginia travels to Richmond for a 5 p.m. contest, while Virginia Tech takes on Davidson on the road in a 6 p.m. tilt.
