No. 3 Seeded Duke Downs No. 6 Seed Boston College, 16-7

BLACKSBURG, V.A. (theACC.com) - The No. 3 seed Duke Blue Devils took a 16-7 decision over No. 6 Boston College in the quarterfinals of the ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship on Thursday at Virginia Tech's Thomson Field. Duke will advance to face No. 2 seed North Carolina on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Duke improves to 12-4 with the win while Boston College drops to 9-8 with the defeat.
"I'm very proud of how we played today," said Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel. "I felt like we had some specific things that we wanted to accomplish in the game today and we did that offensively and defensively. "
Junior Lindsay Gilbride scored four goals to lead the Blue Devil scoring attack. Sophomore Emma Hamm and senior Carolyn Davis each scored two goals and an assist while senior captain Carolina Cryer posted a goal and two assists.
Duke never trailed in the game and scored four straight goals to end the first half, giving Duke a 7-2 lead at the break. Duke scored three more times to open the first five minutes of the second half and take a 10-2 lead.
Senior Maura Mahoney scored three goals while junior Lauren Costello and sophomore Kristin Igoe accounted for two goals each.
"Boston College played a very nice game," added coach Kimel. "They were a tough opponent and we're really excited to move on to face North Carolina tomorrow night."
Duke senior goalie Kim Imbesi logged 50 minutes between the pipes to earn the win and improve to 11-4. She allowed five goals and made 8 saves. Boston College's Katie Monaghan took the loss in goal as she allowed 13 goals made 8 saves. She falls to 9-8 on the year.
