Boston College Defeats Siena 17-8

Loudenville, N.Y. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team returned to their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Siena College by a score of 17-8.

The win puts the Eagles back over .500 with a 8-7 record on the season. Senior Lauren Fitzpatrick led BC in scoring with three goals and five assists for an eight point outing, a career and season high.

Sophomore Jill Rekart won the opening draw control and potted the first goal of the game with 1:12 elapsed in the frame to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Senior Lauren Fitzpatrick added a free position goal 13 seconds later to make it 2-0, and junior attack Lauren Costello made it a 3-0 game less than a minute later.

The Eagles continued their scoring streak with by freshman Brittany Wilton, assisted by Fitzpatrick off a successful clear attempt and a free position goal by sophomore Kristin Igoe to give BC a 5-0 lead. A draw control by Wilton after the Igoe goal led to a sixth consecutive goal for the Eagles by freshman Sam Taylor with just under 20 minutes left to play in the period.

Second Half Surge Lifts No. 2 Terrapins Past Johns Hopkins, 18-12

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 2 women's lacrosse team scored 14 goals in the second half to burst past Johns Hopkins, 18-12, on Tuesday afternoon at the Field & Lacrosse Complex.

Maryland (15-0, 4-0 ACC) headed into halftime down for the first time this season as JHU led 5-4 after the first period. The Blue Jays scored first three minutes into the game before an Amanda Spinnenweber free position goal tied the score. Karri Ellen Johnson connected on an assist from Caitlyn McFadden in midair for a Maryland lead near the 20-minute mark. After another Hopkins score, Spinnenweber found the back of the net at 14:54 to give the lead back to Maryland.

The Blue Jays rallied to close out the first period with three goals to provide JHU with its largest lead of the contest. Spinnenweber nailed her third goal of the period with three seconds remaining to leave the score at 5-4 heading into the half.

JHU's Gina Maranto put the Blue Jays on the board first in the second period but the lead would be short-lived. Maryland finally found its offensive stride with 28 minutes left as Laura Merrifield's free position hit sparked a five-goal rally for the Terps. Johnson and Merrifield netted two goals apiece while McFadden chipped in a goal to round out the run. Candace Rossi attempted to bring the Terrapin attack to a halt with a goal at 18:16 but Maryland tacked on two more to extend the lead to four.

Balanced Attack Sends Cavaliers Past George Mason, 21-8

FAIRFAX, Va. – The No. 10 Virginia women’s lacrosse team had its largest scoring output of the season Tuesday against George Mason, en route to a 21-8 victory at George Mason Stadium. A total of 10 Cavaliers contributed to the scoring in the win, moving Virginia to 10-5 on the season, while the Patriots fall to 5-8.

Senior Blair Weymouth and junior Kaitlin Duff each notched a game-high seven points – a season-high for Weymouth and a career-high for Duff – on four goals and three assists, while junior Brittany Kalkstein contributed four goals and an assist – tying a career-high. Junior Whitaker Hagerman had three goals, while junior Caity Whiteley had two goals. Senior Jenny Hauser had a goal and two assists, while senior Ashley McCulloch and freshman Julie Gardner added a goal and an assist. Freshmen Caroline Cochran and Josie Owen rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist, respectively.

For George Mason, Emily Ellisen led the way with three goals, while Madaly Jamison had a goal and three assists.
