No. 7 Tar Heels Down Virginia Tech, 16-6

CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team, ranked No. 7, handed Virginia Tech their third ACC loss Wednesday evening with the score of 16-6. With the win, Carolina goes 2-1 in ACC play and 8-2 overall, while Virginia Tech drops to 0-3 in ACC play and 2-10 overall.

The Tar Heels were led by Corey Donohoe with three goals. Following Donohoe was Kristen Taylor, Erica LaGrow, and Chelsea Parks with two goals a piece, and then Julia Ryan, Meghan Clarke, Kelly Taylor, Kristen Carr, Jenn Russell, Mia Hurrin, and Sarah Kuonen all contributed one goal a piece. Donohoe also led Carolina in assists with three for the evening, followed by Kristen Taylor with two assists. Clarke and Ryan each had one assist.

The Hokies were led by Kady McBrearty with two goals and then Rachel Culp, Kate Tracey, Allie Emala, and Jenna Reich each had one goal. McBrearty had the only assist for Virginia Tech.

The Tar Heels started off the match with a goal from LaGrow at the 27:17 mark and then had another goal by Parks at 23:04. Kristen Taylor then had her first goal of the night with an assist from Donohoe a few minutes later. Virginia Tech then scored their first goal from Jenna Reich at 19:54 to make the score 3-1. Donohoe had her first of three goals for the evening off of a free position shot at the 18:53 mark and then just a few minutes later got her second goal off of a pass from Kristen Taylor. Russell contributed her only goal of the evening from a free position shot and then Hurrin had her only goal of the evening off of a pass from Ryan making the score 7-1.


 

 

No. 4 Virginia Out Dukes JMU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 4 Virginia women's lacrosse team held off a late rally by the James Madison Dukes to come away with an 11-9 victory Wednesday evening in Klockner Stadium. The win moves the Cavaliers to 7-2 on the season, while James Madison falls to 3-5.

Junior Jenny Hauser led the attack with four points, notching three goals and an assist. Sophomore Brittany Kalkstein also contributed three scores, while classmate Kaitlin Duff added two. Junior Katie Shannon, redshirt sophomore Whitaker Hagerman and sophomore Caity Whiteley each tallied one goal. Senior Claire Bordley and Megan O'Malley and junior Ashley McCulloch rounded out the scoring for the Cavaliers, each with a helper.

The Cavaliers snapped their six game streak of giving up the first goal, scoring the first five straight, taking a 5-0 lead by the 12:45 mark. Bordley dished out her first assist this season, second of her career, to Duff at the 28:08 mark to start the run. Whiteley then made it two straight at 27:28, before Hauser tallied two consecutive scores for Virginia. Hagerman capped off the run with a goal at 12:45.

No. 3 Maryland Beats Towson, 15-10

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Dana Dobbie, the reigning ACC Co-Player of the Week, recorded five goals, eight draw controls, and four caused turnovers to lead the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 15-10 win against Towson on March 26 at Ludwig Field. Classmate Lauren Cohen added her second-straight hat trick.

Dobbie notched her hat trick less than seven minutes into the game. Senior Katie Princiotto and sophomore Caitlyn McFadden chipped in with a goal and two assists apiece while seniors Kelly Kasper and Katie Princiotto had a goal and an assist.

Senior Allie Buote was credited with a season-high 14 saves in goal, her second-straight game with 10 or more stops. That number tied her career high.

For the fourth game in a row, Maryland jumped out to an early lead and this time it was a 5-0 one which led to a 12-2 advantage after the first half. Dobbie won the opening draw and Kasper scored for the Terps 28 seconds in when she made a move past a defender on the right side.

BC Lacrosse Falls to No. 11 Boston University, 17-10

Boston, Mass. - Boston College lost to archrival No. 11 Boston University, 17-10, on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles tied the score early, but could not hold on to tally a win. They fell to 2-6 on the season, while the Terriers improved to 7-2.

It took the Terriers only 31 seconds to score the first goal of the game, but the Eagles came right back as junior captain Jenna McCabe fired a low shot past goalie Rachel Klein less than one minute later.

BU netted three straight goals to go up 4-1, but again, the Eagles came back as junior Maura Mahoney, freshman Jill Rekart and sophomore Mary Stinson recorded scores. Stinson's goal marked the first of her career. With 20 minutes to play, the score was tied 4-4 with 20:25 to play.
