Johnson Nets Five Goals as No. 2 Maryland Cruises Past Towson, 14-7 TOWSON, Md. - Freshman Karri Ellen Johnson scored five goals on Tuesday to propel the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team to a win, 14-7, against Towson at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Maryland (9-0, 3-0 ACC) went down a pair of scores early but rebounded with four unanswered goals after being held scoreless in the first ten minutes of the first half. Karissa Taylor scored her fifth goal of the year before Brandi Jones tallied two unassisted scores and Sarah Mollison added a free position score. Meggie McNamara cracked the Maryland drive with 7:47 remaining in the first period before Johnson scored the final goal of the half off an assist from Jones to provide Maryland with the momentum and a 5-3 lead heading into the locker room. Sporting a mere two-goal cushion, Maryland erupted in the second stanza, as Caitlyn McFadden broke open for a pair of goals within 12 seconds of each other in the 26th minute. Johnson and Spinnenweber also added two goals each in the midst of the 6-0 run and blow the game wide open for an eight-goal Terrapin lead. Cavaliers Use Dominating Second Half to Defeat No. 19 JMU HARRISONBURG, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team used six-consecutive goals midway through the second half to take control of a close contest with No. 19 James Madison, en route to an 18-9 victory at the JMU Lacrosse Complex on Tuesday evening. The win gets the Cavaliers back on track, moving them to 7-3 on the season, while James Madison falls to 4-4. Nine Cavaliers tallied goals for the Cavaliers, led by senior All-Americans Ashley McCulloch, Blair Weymouth and redshirt junior Whit Hagerman – who each tallied three scores. Senior All-American Jenny Hauser, junior Kaitlin Duff and freshman Josie Owen each contributed two goals, while junior Brittany Kalkstein, junior Caity Whiteley and freshman Julie Gardner rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
