Top-Ranked Terps Blast Brown, 18-3
March 22, 1999 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Powered by a pair of five-goal performances by Jen Adams and Quinn Carney, the #1 nationally ranked Maryland Terrapins defeated the Brown Bears, 18-3, in women's lacrosse action at Stevenson Field. The Terps broke open a tie game with three goals to close out the first half, giving them a 6-3 advantage at the break. The Bears jumped on the board first with just 2:41 expired when Jenny McNamara fired a shot past the Maryland keeper for a 1-0 advantage. After an Adams goal, the Bears jumped on top again when Emily Boynton tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season to push the advantage to 2-1. Maryland took the lead for good with 18:41 gone in the first on a free position tally by Christie Jenkins. Elizabeth Rogers closed out the scoring for the Bears with a goal at the 22:27 mark of the first to tie the game for the final time. Playing an excellent first half in goal for the Bears was Shea
Obremski, who made 13 saves in 45:15 of play. Freshman Niki Caggiano
closed out the game for the Bears by making three saves in 14:45. The
Bears fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Terps improve to 6-0 to stay
undefeated.
