No. 9 Carolina Knocks Off No. 4 Virginia, 12-8
No. 9 Carolina opened its ACC schedule impressively Saturday at a rain-soaked Fetzer Field posting a strong 12-8 victory over No. 4 Virginia. Juniors Megan Bosica and Jenn Russell led the way for the Tar Heels (5-2) scoring three goals each, while goalkeeper Logan Ripley recorded eight saves to earn her fifth victory on the year. The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 5-2.

Carolina came out to score the game's first two goals, both of which Bosica played a part in. She assisted Corey Donohoe in the third minute of play and then scored unassisted less than 30 seconds later. Virginia would answer quickly however, receiving a goal on a free position shot by All-America Blair Weymouth who had a game-high four goals. Bosica followed with another goal, which Virginia's Kaitlin Duff matched to bring the score to 3-2.

Donohoe, Bosica, and Kristen Taylor then went on to score three straight for the Tar Heels, widening the lead to four goals at 6-2. Duff answered again for the Cavaliers, but Carolina responded with another streak of three goals, this time from Jenn Russell, Kristen Carr, and Taylor. After Weymouth found the net for the second time in the half, the score was 9-4 Carolina as the teams headed off for the half.

Tech upends Eagles in overtime thriller
The Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team survived an early 6-1 deficit and came back to knock off Boston College 16-14 in overtime on a cold and rain-drenched Saturday afternoon at Thompson Field.

With the win, the Hokies secure their first Atlantic Coast Conference victory since joining the league in 2005 while also improving their 2009 record to 4-4 (1-1 ACC). Boston College falls to 5-2 (0-1 ACC) on the year.

The match did not start well for Tech as the Eagles scored three-straight goals to open the contest and held a 6-1 advantage after 12 minutes of play. Boston College extended its lead to 8-3 with less than 16 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Hokies began to chip away at the lead over a 12-minute span with four unanswered goals, two each from Rachel Culp (Sr., Kent, Ohio) and Jessica Nonn (Fr., Catonsville, Md.). BC closed the half with a score and headed into the intermission with a tenuous two-goal lead.

No. 3 Duke Edged By Georgetown, 12-11
The No. 3 Duke women’s lacrosse team succumbed to a late run by eighth-ranked Georgetown, dropping Saturday afternoon’s contest to the Hoyas, 12-11, at Multi-Sport Field. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 6-2 on the year, while Georgetown improves to 4-2 with today’s victory.

After trailing 5-3 at halftime, Duke mounted a second-half comeback to take a 10-8 lead – thanks to a four-goal run between the 16:19 and 9:13 mark in the second frame. But the Hoyas would rally with four straight of their own to retake control, 12-10, with 1:26 to play. Carolyn Davis scored to cut it to 12-11 with 30 seconds left, but the Blue Devils ran out of time in the contest.

Seniors Caroline Cryer and Megan Del Monte led all Blue Devils with a hat trick, while Davis tallied two scores and Lindsay Gilbride, Sarah Bullard, and Kat Thomas all netted one.
