No. 2 Maryland Women’s Lacrosse Holds On Against No. 8 Georgetown, 14-12
The No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team possessed an early lead and held on tight Wednesday, downing its third top ten-ranked opponent in a row with a road win against No. 8 Georgetown, 14-12, at Multi-Sport Field.

Brittany Jones picked up the first of Maryland's four unassisted goals in the game's opening play before Amanda Spinnenweber, Sarah Mollison and Laura Merrifield netted scores, continuing to show the Terps' balanced attack. Jordy Kirr netted a pair of goals for Georgetown as the game sat at 4-2 before Brandi Jones connected on a free position shot to give Maryland a three-goal lead with 11:15 remaining in the period. Karri Ellen Johnson extended the Terrapin lead to four with a goal off an assist from Caitlyn McFadden with a little over eight minutes left in the first half.

Georgetown answered by going on a 3-0 run to put the score at 6-5 before a score from Spinnenweber with one second remaining gave the Terps a two-goal cushion heading into the half. 

Duke Nets Season-High 22 Goals In Win Over Vanderbilt
The No. 4 Duke women’s lacrosse team scored a season-best 22 goals – including six from junior Lindsay Gilbride – in Wednesday afternoon’s 22-16 victory over No. 10 Vanderbilt at Koskinen Stadium. Duke improves to 6-1 on the season – and a perfect 4-0 at home – with the victory, while the Commodores drop to 2-3.

Today’s output was the most in a game for the Blue Devils since netting 23 in the NCAA Tournament first round game vs. LeMoyne on May 13, 2007.

Gilbride’s six goals was a career-high for the junior in a game, as she now owns a team-high 24 season goals. Gilbride was joined in the scoring column by senior Caroline Cryer with five, senior Carolyn Davis with four, sophomore Sarah Bullard with three, sophomore Christie Kaestner with two, and senior Megan Del Monte and sophomore Emma Hamm with one tally apiece. 

Boston College Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Brown 13-5
The Boston College women's lacrosse team defeated Brown University 13-5 in their 2009 season home opener.

Wednesday's game marked the first game for the lacrosse team in their new home at the state-of-the-art turf field at the Newton Campus Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.

The Eagles started the scoring at 28:12 in the opening with a goal from freshman Kate Collins from junior Lauren Costello.
