COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior midfielder Kristin Sommar (North Wales, Pa.) scored at the 3:49 mark in the second half, breaking open a 6-5 game, and leading the No. 1-ranked Terrapins (2-0) to an 8-5 win against the sixth-ranked Duke Blue Devils (1-1) on Friday night. Sommar's goal marked the Terps' first goal of the second half after they took a 6-2 lead at the half.

Duke opened the contest at the 28:18 mark in the first half off an unassisted goal by Tricia Martin. Maryland junior Christie Jenkins (Media, Pa.) got the Terps on the board first at the 25:08 mark. The Terps then went on to outscore the Blue Devils 5-0 before Martin would net Duke's second goal at the buzzer.

Duke then went on a mini scoring drive of its own, outscoring the Terrapins 3-0 to start the second half. Sommar's goal followed by sophomore attack Quinn Carney's (Flemington, N.J.) goal with one second remaining capped off the Terps' scoring drive. It marked Carney's third goal of the evening.

In goal, Maryland's Alex Kahoe posted 16 saves while Duke's Shannon Chaney totaled 12.

Maryland continues Atlantic Coast Conference action on Sunday, hosting North Carolina at 1 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
