Hokies Fall to Drexel in Season Opener

The Virginia Tech women's lacrosse team lost 13-10 to Drexel in its season opener Saturday afternoon at Tech Lacrosse Stadium. Rachel Culp, Kady McBrearty and freshman Allie Emala scored two goals apiece, while freshmen Liz Carpenter and Joanna Kiser began their collegiate career by notching one goal each.

The Dragons opened strong, leading 3-0 within the first four minutes of play, before Emala ended the streak by opening scoring for Tech at 5:56. Though four other Hokies scored in the first half, Tech was not able to take the lead. Tech trailed 5-7 at the end of the first half.

The first tie of the game came in the beginning of the second half with 21:58 on the clock when freshman Kate Tracy assisted McBrearty for her second goal of the game. The success of Carpenter's free-position goal three minutes later was short-lived as the Dragons began to answer back.

Drexel's Becca Drylie-Perkins scored 12 minutes into the second half, marking the first of six unanswered goals against the Hokies.
