Dec. 29, 2004 Pompano Beach, Fla. - Wake Forest senior Ashley Hoagland captured the 2004 Dixie Amateur championship Dec. 23, shooting a four-round 287. She was one of only two participants to score in the 60's, with a round two 68 performance, tying the lowest score of her collegiate career. Hoagland edged out Tiffany Joh of San Diego, Calif. by three strokes to clinch the title. Hoagland led throughout the final day of the girls' event, finishing with a 74 and a 287 total (71-68-74-74) on the par 72 course. "I came here to win, and I was able to pull it off," Hoagland said. Hoagland, who led her Deacons this fall with a 72.4 stroke average, stands at the top of the all time Wake Forest record book, with the lowest career scoring average by any Wake Forest women's golfer in the history of the program, 74.7. In the 2004 fall season, Hoagland posted three top-10 finishes, including a tie for third place at the Mason Rudolph Championship. 92 percent of her rounds counted and 58 percent of her rounds were equal to or under par. She had just a 6.8 stroke differential off the leader. Hoagland and the Deacons resume play and start the 2005 spring season Feb. 21-23 in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Lady Puerto Rico Tournament.
