FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The 11th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team closed out the first day of competition tied for eighth place at the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt's Legends Club (par 72, 6,217-yards).

The Demon Deacons shot a 3-over 291 and are in a three-way tie with No. 3 Southern California and No. 14 Georgia. Arizona State leads the field after tying the tournament 18-hole record with an 8-under-par 280. UCLA is one stroke behind the Sun Devils after shooting a 7-under-par 281, while Arizona is in third with a 5-under 283.

Dolores White led the Deacs after one round and is tied for sixth after shooting a 3-under-par 69. White birdied five holes en route to the 18-hole career low for the sophomore. White is four strokes behind individual leader Tiffany Joh of UCLA, who shot a 7-under 65.

Senior Laura Crawford and junior Nannette Hill are tied for 35th with a 1-over 73. Freshman Natalie Sheary made her collegiate debut and shot a 4-over-76, while senior Jordan Craig rounded out Wake's team of five with a 7-over 79 for 85th place.

Wake Forest opens the second round at the 10th hole and tees off beginning at 9:30 a.m.
