Women's Golf Opens Fall Season at Mason Rudolph Championship
Sept. 13, 2007
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team opens the fall season at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. The Demon Deacons were ranked 11th in the preseason Golfweek poll and are one of 13 teams ranked in the Top 20 who will be competing in Nashville. The 54-hole tournament will open Friday and continue through Sunday on the par-72, 6,217-yard Legends Course with 18 holes being played each day. Seniors Jordan Craig and Laura Crawford will lead Wake's team of five this weekend, which also includes junior Nannette Hill, sophomore Dolores White and freshman Natalie Sheary. Included in this weekend's field are top-ranked Duke, No. 2 Arizona State, No. 3 USC, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Auburn, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Purdue, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Arizona, No. 13 Florida, No. 14 Georgia and No. 20 Stanford. Twenty-seventh-ranked LSU along with Kentucky, Ohio State, and South Carolina round out the field. The Wake Forest women's golf team made a strong showing to end the spring season and it looks to kick off the 2007-08 season with just as much drive this weekend. Head Coach Dianne Dailey begins her 20th season at the helm of the women's golf program and returns four players from last year's starting lineup - a team that finished second at the ACC Championship and 12th at the NCAA's. With the addition of two ranked freshmen - Natalie Sheary and Alexandra Bodemann - and seniors Laura Crawford and Jordan Craig leading the team, Dailey's squad is ready to `go places.'
"I really think this team can go places - we have a very strong core of kids who make up one of the most competitive teams with our returning starters and our freshmen. We have some veterans who haven't played on a regular basis but definitely have the chance to jump in the starting line-up. We're very excited about the upcoming season and ready to get things going," said Dailey. Teams will tee off from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Wake Forest tees off on the 10th hole at 8:45 to open the tournament. Live results can be followed on www.golfstat.com. |
