COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Erin Clasper, a three-year letterwinner on the University of Maryland women's golf team, has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur which will be played in August.
Clasper, a senior-to-be who will serve as the Terrapins' team captain for the second consecutive year, was the low medalist at the qualifying round held earlier this week at Shannopin CC in Pittsburgh. Clasper carded a 76 and was one of three competitors from the field to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur, which will be held Aug. 12-17 at Sleepy Hollow CC in Scarborough, N.Y.
"No doubt this is the highlight of her career to date; it's a tremendous accomplishment," said Jason Rodenhaver, Maryland's women's golf coach. "This is the most prestigious event in which an amateur can compete. Certainly, it only serves to lend more credibility to our program when one of our players proves they can play in this caliber of event."
As a junior last season, Clasper posted a team-best two top 10 finishes and recorded the lowest stroke average on the team.
