SANO, JAPAN - Duke University golfers Liz Janangelo and Leigh Anne Hardin led the USA team to a 34-26 victory over Japan in the Collegiate Golf Championship over the weekend at the Verde Sano Country Coub in Sano, Japan.

Janangelo and Hardin each posted victories in the third and final round to give team USA its eighth straight victory over Japan and now lead the overall series 21-7.

Hardin, a rising senior from Martinsville, Ind., was named MVP for the women and was also named Mrs. Ambassador by the Japanese team for her sportsmanship during the course of the competition. During the competition, Hardin notched victories in the first and third rounds, while falling in the second round. Her 72-81 victory over Hitomi Matsumura in the third round was the most lopsided victory of the final round for the women.

A rising sophomore from West Hartford, Conn., Janangelo lost her first round match but came back to halve her second round match against Matsumura and then downed Noriko Yasuda, 78-79, in the final round.
