Former Tar Heel Golfer Ashley Prange Wins FUTURES Tour Event
July 7, 2006 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Former Tar Heel golfer Ashley Prange captured the championship at last week's Horseshoe Casino FUTURES Golf Classic in Hammond, Ind. Prange, from Noblesville, Ind., fired rounds of 71-71-72 for a two-under-par 214 total for her second win this year on the Duramed FUTURES Tour. Prangle trailed Lori Atsedes of Ithaca, N.Y., by two strokes after 12 holes of Sunday's final round. On the 13th hole, Prange pulled her drive left and hit a tree. Many players would have given in at that point; however, Prange knew she had to rebound. After saving par on that hole, Prange birdied the 14th hole to draw even with Astedes. And after Atsedes posted a bogey at hole #15, Prange inched ahead by one shot and never looked back. The win moved Prange to No. 3 on the Tour's current money list. Earlier, in mid-March, Prange picked up her first win of the year, the Greater Tampa Duramed FUTURES Classic in Riverview, Fla. Prange, the champion of The Golf Channel's Big Break V, played on the 2001-04 Carolina women's golf teams. She was a two-time All-America, first team in 2004 and honorable mention in 2003, and a three-time All-ACC performer, 2002, 2003, 2004. Prange captured three collegiate titles, winning the 2004 Lady Gamecock Classic, the 2004 LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic and the 2002 Mercedes-Benz Championship. She was a semi-finalist at the 2003 Women's Western Amateur Championship.
