Carolina Golfers Named To All-ACC Academic Golf Teams
June 28, 2007 Chapel Hill, N.C. - Three University of North Carolina women's golfers were named to the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Golf Team while two men was selected to the 2007 All-ACC Academic Men's Golf Team as announced today by ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford. Sydney Crane, a sophomore from Jamestown, N.C.; Ann Laney, a junior from Charlotte, N.C.; and Katie Miller, a senior from Jeannette, Pa., were selected to the women's team while junior Barden Berry, from Kinston, N.C., and sophomore Robert Riesen, from Pinehurst, N.C., were chosen to the men's squad. This marks the consecutive appearance for Crane on the women's team and Berry and Riesen on the men's team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his/her academic career. The complete women's team consists of Duke's Amanda Blumenherst, Anna Grzebien, Jennifer Pandolfi and Alison Whitaker; Florida State's Whitney Brummett and Caroline Westrup; Maryland's Kelly Calkin, Kathryn Stepanek and Kathryn Trotter; Miami's Jessica Steward; North Carolina's Sydney Crane, Ann Laney and Katie Miller; NC State's Stephanie Derrey; Virginia's Whitney Neuhauser, Kristen Simpson, Rachel Smith and Leah Wigger; and Wake Forest's Laura Crawford and Margaret Simons. The entire men's squad includes Boston College's James Granello, Kyle Kelly, Jan Prokop and Robert Reed; Clemson's Ben Martin; Duke's Jeff Edelman and Adam Long; Florida State's Torstein Nevestad; Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro, Taylor Hall, Kevin Larsen and Cameron Tringale; Maryland's Hunter Bendall; North Carolina's Barden Berry and Robert Riesen; Virginia's Eamonn McLoughlin and Conrad von Borsig; Virginia Tech's Matthew Boyd and Jurrian van der Vaart; and Wake Forrest's Brendan Gielow.
