Vincent Breaks Course Record With 64 At State Am
June 23, 2005 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jessica Vincent, a rising sophomore on the NC State women's golf team, shot a women's course record 64 in the second round of the North Carolina Women's Amateur Golf Championships Wednesday at the par 73 Sedefield Country Club. The Burlington, N.C., native hit 16 greens and sunk a 60-foot putt on the 14th hole to take a three shot lead into the final round Thursday. The State Am divides the field into flights after the first two rounds and four current Wolfpack golfers were among those who made the cut for the championship flight. Vincent, Molly Birmingham, Lauren Harling and Nancy Mountcastle were all honored at the State Am banquet Wednesday night as part of the championship flight and Vincent was awarded the medalist award, named after 10-time State Am Champion and North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame member Marge Burn. Mountcastle shot even-par in the second round after carding an 80 on Tuesday. She is tied for 11th place going into the final round of 18 holes Thursday. Harling shot even-par in the first round and fired a second round 79. She is tied for ninth going into the final round. Birmingham followed up a first round 77 with a 74 Wednesday and is tied for seventh place going into the last round. Vincent shot even-par on the first day before posting her 64 Wednesday to take the lead. Sarah Davis, a senior on NC State squad this past season, is also competing in the tournament. Head coach Page Marsh, a six-time State Am Champion, attended the banquet Wednesday with her mother Linda Marsh and sisters Sheree Crane and Amber Elliott. The Marsh Award, named after Linda, is presented annually to the junior with the lowest score.
