Arseneault Moves into Quarterfinals at Western Amateur

    Bluefield, VA - Virginia sophomore women's golfer Jennie Arseneault defeated two opponents in match play Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals at the Women's Western Golf Association's 106th National Amateur Championship.

    In the morning round, Arseneault dispatched Haley Brown 2 and 1. In the afternoon she defeated Maddi Swaney 3 and 2.

    Arseneault will face Emily Hoper in the quarterfianls Friday. Their match is scheduled to begin at 7:50 a.m. at Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, Va.

    Arseneault advanced to match play after finishing fourth overall in the stroke play portion of the tournament.

    The tournament concludes with 36 holes of match play Saturday.

    Arseneault, from Grinnell, Iowa, has already qualified for the 2006 Women's U.S. Open that will take place June 29 to July 2 at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I.
