Bluefield, VA - Virginia sophomore women's golfer Jennie Arseneault defeated Katrin Wolfe 4 and 3 in the first round of match play to advance to the round of 32 at the Women's Western Golf Association's 106th National Amateur Championship.

Arseneault will face Haley Brown in the second round of match play Thursday. Their match is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. at Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, Va.

Arseneault advanced to match play after finishing fourth overall in the stroke play portion of the tournament.

The tournament concludes with 36 holes of match play Saturday.

Arseneault, from Grinnell, Iowa, has already qualified for the 2006 Women's U.S. Open that will take place June 29 to July 2 at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I.
